Former Brazil coach Tite was dismissed by Flamengo on Monday, marking the end of his tenure in his first role after leading the national team in the last two World Cups. He will be succeeded for the remainder of the year by Filipe Luis, a former Atletico Madrid defender and a multi-time champion with Flamengo, who has also coached one of the club's youth teams.

The announcement came shortly after Flamengo's 1-0 victory over Athletico Paranaense in the Brazilian league. Tite's contract was set to expire at the end of the year.

Just a week prior, Flamengo faced elimination from the Copa Libertadores at the hands of Uruguay’s Penarol in the quarterfinals. Currently, the team sits in fourth place in the Brazilian league, accumulating 48 points from 27 matches, trailing leader Botafogo by 11 points.

Flamengo is scheduled to compete against Corinthians in the semifinals of the Brazilian Cup on Wednesday, a tournament that offers the high-profile squad a final opportunity to secure a significant trophy this season.

At 63 years old, Tite secured his sole title with Flamengo in April, winning the Rio state championship. He departed from Brazil following the 2022 World Cup, where the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Croatia. Tite also led Brazil in the 2018 World Cup, where they were ousted by Belgium in the quarterfinals.

During the recent match against Athletico Paranaense at the Maracana Stadium, Tite was met with boos from Flamengo supporters despite the team's narrow victory.
