Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has recounted poignant memories of her last moments with the late singer Onyeka Onwenu, who sadly passed away in July 2024.
Silva's reflections come in the wake of Onwenu's recent
burial at the Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi, Lagos State, on August 30.
In a conversation with media personality WithChude, Silva
disclosed that she was present with Onwenu during the unfortunate event.
The two were seated together at the 80th birthday
celebration of Stella Okolie, CEO of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, when Onwenu
collapsed.
Silva vividly described the experience: “We were at the same
table during the party. At one point, while she was performing, she came over
to me, pulled me up, and we shared a dance.”
She added, “After
singing ‘One Love,’ we returned to our seats, and I noticed Shola Momoh
exclaiming, ‘she’s not well, she slumped on her chair.’ At that moment, she was
unconscious but still had a pulse.”
The response to revive Onwenu was swift and vigorous.
Silva recalled, “CPR was administered while she lay on the
floor, and we sought out doctors who were at the event. I later accompanied her
to the hospital, where she received care for about an hour and a half before
she passed away.”
