The UBA Time Capsule is a collection of artifacts and information from the past 75 years, intended to be preserved for future generations to explore and understand the history of this global financial institution. UBA has evolved from a modest office in Lagos, Nigeria, into a prominent financial entity with a presence in 20 African nations and four major financial hubs worldwide: London, Paris, New York, and Dubai.
During the unveiling and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the UBA Head Office on Thursday, UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, addressed the gathered staff and media. He emphasized that the Time Capsule and the Tribe Photo Wall were established to honor the commitment, innovation, and collaborations that the bank has cultivated over the past seven decades while continuing to serve over 45 million customers globally.
Alawuba also outlined the bank's vision for the next 25 and 75 years, sharing its goals in the mission to elevate Africa on the global stage. He remarked, “Today’s unveiling of our Time Capsule is part of UBA’s 75th Anniversary celebrations that commenced earlier this year. It reflects our history and achievements over the past seven decades, serving as a reminder of our journey.”
He further added, “The UBA Tribe Wall, which we are also unveiling today, represents our appreciation for all UBA staff, both past and present, who have contributed to our success. It illustrates our growth story, showcasing our origins and our current standing.”
Alawuba shared his vision for the future of the bank, stating, "At UBA, our commitment to innovation is paramount. What we have accomplished thus far is just a fraction of our aspirations for the next century and beyond. Currently, UBA operates in 24 countries, but we anticipate expanding to 100 countries within the next 25 years. Our revenue, which currently stands at $20 billion, is projected to exceed $20 trillion in the same timeframe. We aim to position ourselves among the top 10 banks globally, as we recognize that Africa's future is intertwined with UBA's growth."
He emphasized that the bank will maintain its focus on its people and customers, ensuring that all activities, products, and services are tailored to meet the evolving needs of its diverse clientele worldwide.
