The West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists has initiated the construction of a state-of-the-art secretariat and conference center valued at N3.8 billion naira in the Yaba district of Lagos.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place on Friday, led by veteran pharmacist and former Minister of Health, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, alongside WAPCP President, Alhaji Murtada Sesay, and other distinguished pharmacists.
During his address, Sesay emphasized the college's mission, which focuses on enhancing pharmacy education, standardizing practices, fostering research, and advancing specialized fields within the profession.
He mentioned that the new facility will include an e-library, a regional drug information center, offices, conference halls, and meeting rooms, all aimed at improving healthcare delivery across West Africa.
Sesay indicated that the project is anticipated to be completed within 24 months, contingent upon the availability of funds.
He reiterated that this initiative reflects WAPCP’s dedication to excellence in postgraduate pharmacy education.
In his remarks, Sesay praised the College Property Committee, chaired by Sir Anthony Akhimien, and called for financial contributions, assuring that significant donors would receive recognition.
The President stated, “Our College's primary goals are to enhance the harmonization of pharmacy education and practice in the region, promote research in pharmacy, and advance specialized pharmacy practices.”

Adelusi-Adeluyi characterized the initiative as one whose moment has arrived.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing the college's sustainability through increased engagement, focusing on innovative and pertinent approaches that would elevate the profession's significance and esteem.
In his comments, Anthony Akhimien, the chairman of the property committee, stated that the project aims to create a space where pharmacists can receive training while also having a conducive environment for research activities.
