A 19-year-old Nigerian woman, named Sarah Seun Solarin, has garnered widespread admiration after achieving a first-class degree in Computer Science from the esteemed Babcock University.
On her social media platforms, she proudly shared her academic success, graduating with an impressive 5.0 CGPA at such a young age.
In a post on LinkedIn, Sarah, who donned her graduation gown, announced that she was honored as the top graduating student from the School of Computer and Engineering Sciences, as well as having the highest CGPA in the Computer Science Department.
She emphasized her outstanding performance in her final year, where she not only attained a perfect 5.0 GPA but also successfully defended her project titled ‘Brain Tumor Identification and Classification Using YOLOv5 in Magnetic Resonance Imaging,’ receiving a top score of 90.
Due to her exceptional academic achievements, she was the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Google Generation Scholarship for academic excellence, the Dean’s Prize for the highest CGPA in the School of Computing, the Engineer (Dr.) Akin Alade Family Award for Best Graduating Student, the Folajimi Daodu Award for Best Graduating Student, the Labulo Prize from Prof. Biodun and Prof. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Disu, and the Academic Excellence Award from the Michael Adetutu Foundation, which provided cash prizes, career coaching, and support with scholarship applications. Additionally, she received the New Horizons IT/E-Biz Certification Excellence Prize and a Dean’s mention for a paid three-month internship with the Kibo School Programme in the U.S.
Sarah expressed her belief that these accolades will pave the way for her future success in the field of computer science, serving as an inspiration to many online.
In her message, she conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to God, her family, friends, mentors, and academic supervisors, acknowledging their significant contributions to her achievements.
She wrote, “On the 28th of July this year, I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Computer Science at 19. I was also awarded as the student with the Highest CGPA in the Department of Computer Science, as well as being on the Dean’s List as the Overall Best Graduating student from the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences (Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Technology, Software Engineering and Information Technology), Babcock University.”
“I am even happier to announce that I not only wrapped up my Bachelor’s Degree with a 5.0 GPA in my final semester, but also successfully defended and published my final year project on “Brain Tumor Identification and Classification Using YOLOv5 in Radiomics Analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scans” with an A grade of 90.”
