Delta Air Lines, recognized as the oldest continuously operating airline in the United States and the seventh oldest in the world, has announced plans to resume daily flights from Lagos State to New York starting in December 2024.

As part of this initiative, the airline will upgrade its fleet from the Airbus A330-200, which has a capacity of 223 passengers, to the larger Airbus A330-900neo, which can accommodate 281 passengers.

This information was shared in a statement released to PUNCH Online on Monday, highlighting that the upgrade not only increases capacity but also aims to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.

The statement emphasized Delta's commitment to adapting its services to meet customer preferences and the changing landscape of air travel.

Mary Gbobaniyi, Delta’s Head of Sales for West Africa, expressed her enthusiasm, stating that this development, which introduces more flights to the Nigerian market, is perfectly timed. She noted that the increased capacity and larger aircraft will provide more options and an improved experience for customers.

Delta's mission as a leading global airline is to connect people and communities, fostering understanding and expanding opportunities.

The airline also pointed out that its decision to offer direct flights is a result of customer feedback.

“The choice to enhance services to Lagos stems from positive responses from customers regarding Delta’s offerings and the growing demand in the market,” the statement concluded.

To facilitate a seamless travel experience, Delta recommends that passengers flying from Lagos arrive at the airport for check-in at least three hours prior to departure to navigate airport security screening effectively. The airline also emphasizes the importance of checking in 90 minutes before departure, noting that arriving at the weighing scales just as the counters close will be deemed late and may jeopardize check-in.

According to Delta, adhering to these guidelines will ensure that passengers receive optimal service and enjoy a stress-free travel experience.

Additionally, the statement highlights that premium travelers on the New York-Lagos route can take advantage of the Delta One Lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport. This exclusive lounge features a variety of upscale amenities, including gourmet dining, comfortable seating areas, and personalized services.

The Delta One Lounge is designed to elevate the travel experience, offering a tranquil space for passengers to unwind before their flights, thereby enhancing the overall premium travel experience on this route.
