The Old Students’ Association of Timi Agbale Grammar School in Ede, Osun State, has paid tribute to one of its former principals, Chief Joseph Opatola, 45 years after his departure from the institution.

Chief Opatola, who holds the title of Ekerin of Awe in Oyo State, was the principal from 1975 to 1980.

In recognition of his contributions during his tenure, the association has named the newly renovated school hall in his honor.

During the ceremony held at the school hall on Saturday, Dr. Bola Adewara, President of the Old Students’ Association, referred to the 94-year-old Opatola as a “mentor and father figure” to his students.

Adewara emphasized that the association decided to honor Opatola to acknowledge the significant impact he had during his leadership at Timi Agbale Grammar School.

“Today, we celebrate our principal, Chief Opatola, who served from 1975 to 1980. We recognize the profound influence he has had on our lives.

“Since the establishment of this association in 2011, we have been contemplating ways to honor him, and today we are fulfilling that commitment.”

This individual has made significant contributions to our lives, as evidenced by the heartfelt testimonies shared here today. He is more than just a principal; he has served as a mentor and a father figure to many of us.

Many of the students who benefited from his guidance have ascended to positions of influence, and it brings us great joy to see him here today, looking as vibrant and content as we had hoped.

On behalf of the alumni association, I would like to express our gratitude to Chief Opatola for his honesty and the profound impact he has had on our lives. We also give thanks to Almighty God for his life, Adewara remarked.

In his acceptance speech, Opatola expressed his gratitude for being able to witness this event, where the contributions he made to the school 45 years ago are still being celebrated.

He praised the alumni association, referring to this recognition as “a rare honour and privilege.”
