Thirty years after securing the 1994 world rally championship, French driver Didier Auriol is returning to commemorate that achievement.

At 66 years old, Auriol is set to participate next month in the concluding round of this year's world championship in Japan, marking his first entry into the competition since 2005.

He will be accompanied by co-driver Denis Giraudet as they navigate a Toyota GR Yaris in the event's national category, as announced by the World Rally Championship on Monday.

Auriol made history in 1994 by winning the title in a Toyota Celica, becoming the first Frenchman to claim the rally championship.
