Hendrick Motorsports announced on Monday that it will not contest Alex Bowman's disqualification at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which has removed him from contention for the NASCAR championship.

Bowman finished the race at The Roval in 18th place, a position that was sufficient to eliminate Joey Logano of Team Penske from the playoff standings by a margin of four points.

However, NASCAR determined that the No. 48 Chevrolet did not pass the post-race inspection due to failing to meet the minimum weight requirements. This disqualification resulted in Bowman being placed 38th, allowing Logano to secure that playoff position.

While Hendrick had the option to appeal, the team issued a statement confirming they would not pursue that route.

“NASCAR provides a clear margin to account for discrepancies in pre- and post-race weight. After a comprehensive review with our team and the sanctioning body, we realized we did not allow ourselves enough margin to satisfy the post-race requirement,” the statement read. “Although the infraction was unintentional, it was preventable. We are deeply disappointed to lose a playoff spot under these conditions and extend our apologies to our fans and partners.”

All vehicles participating in the playoffs undergo inspection following each race.

NASCAR indicated that Hendrick was given several chances to refuel the car, purge the water system, and add water in an effort to achieve the minimum weight. However, when the car returned to the weight station, it still fell short.

This outcome was particularly disheartening for Bowman's sponsor, Ally, whose chief marketing officer expressed her disappointment on social media, noting that Bowman had earned a playoff spot and was the top points scorer in the first round.

“Woke up this morning — after hardly sleeping — not feeling any better,” wrote Andrea Brimmer, expressing that she was “gutted” for Bowman and the “team who have fought for every point this year and deserve to be moving forward.”

The eight competitors advancing to the third round of the playoffs include Hendrick Motorsports drivers William Byron, Chase Elliott, and Kyle Larson, Team Penske's Joey Logano and defending series champion Ryan Blaney, Joe Gibbs Racing's Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin, along with Tyler Reddick from 23XI Racing.

Hendrick Motorsports faced a harsh disqualification, having celebrated on Sunday night after securing four of the eight playoff positions. As they prepare for this Sunday’s race in Las Vegas, only three of their cars remain in contention.
