The Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) of Turkey published the decision regarding the access ban on its official website.
Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc stated that a court in Ankara determined that there was sufficient evidence to suspect that crimes related to "child sexual abuse and obscenity" had occurred, warranting the removal of access to the San Francisco-based platform.
"We are committed to safeguarding our youth and children from harmful content on social media and the Internet that constitutes criminal activity. We will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the foundations of our social structure," Tunc remarked in a post on X.
This access ban follows public outrage stemming from the murder of two women by a 19-year-old man earlier this month. In the aftermath, social media content revealed that some Discord users were expressing admiration for the act, which intensified public anger towards certain communities on the platform.
Additionally, on Tuesday, Russia's communications regulator imposed a ban on Discord for violating local laws, following previous fines for the company's failure to remove prohibited content, as reported by the TASS news agency.
