Davido has revealed plans for his fifth studio album, set to be released in 2025, and has teased an upcoming single titled 'Funds.'
The Grammy-nominated artist, Davido, has unveiled plans for the release of his highly anticipated fifth studio album in the year 2025. This eagerly awaited musical endeavor promises to seamlessly blend authentic African rhythms with his signature global sound, creating an exceptional auditory experience for music enthusiasts worldwide.
In his recent appearance on The Baller Alert Show, Davido offered a preview of his upcoming album by revealing a new single titled "Funds." This track features Nigerian rap star Odumodublvck and the talented vocalist Chike.
Davido expressed his admiration for Odumodublvck, recognizing him as the current rap king of Nigeria. He also drew comparisons between Chike's musical style and that of American R&B artist Bryson Tiller. Fans can anticipate a unique and memorable collaboration from these talented artists.
“We have another coming in couple of days, it is called ‘Funds’. I featured the current biggest Nigerian rapper, Odumodublvck, and the Nigerian Bryson Tiller, girls love him is name is Chike”, he said.
Davido shared his enthusiasm regarding his forthcoming album and single, stating, “My album will be coming out early next year. It will be a real African record.”
He further highlighted his dedication to remaining connected to his Nigerian heritage, remarking, “I have to stay tapped in because why run away from home when others are running there now.”
Recently, the Afrobeats star addressed the backlash regarding his recent remarks on Nigeria's economic issues.
The artist emphasized his dual function as both an entertainer and a representative of Nigeria, stating, “The situation back home is not favorable. The economy is struggling. I fulfill my role as an ambassador. When I return home to film, I will not highlight the negative aspects.”
Davido's comments drew criticism from various sectors, including actors and television hosts, who accused him of damaging Nigeria's reputation.
Akashat Ny’mat, a presenter on TVC, contended that while Davido's statements contained elements of truth, they were inappropriate for a global audience.
During her segment on the TVC show, Ny’mat remarked, “When the President travels abroad seeking foreign investment and a high-profile individual like Davido makes such statements, he is effectively discouraging potential investors from coming.”
Despite the criticism, Davido responded on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, defending his stance and addressing his detractors.
In a series of posts on X, Davido reiterated his role as a “true ambassador” for Nigeria.
“Lmao #tvcnewsng nah today? You all are mad ‘cus we the real ambassadors,” he wrote.
He also expressed enthusiasm about his delivery during the podcast, stating in pidgin English, “The way my accent be for that interview dey sweet me very demure.”
Since achieving prominence in 2012 with the success of his hit single ‘Dami Duro’ from his inaugural album ‘Omo Baba Olowo,’ Davido has established himself as one of the most significant artists in Africa.
