Bichi, who serves as the representative for Bichi Federal Constituency in Kano, holds the position of Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation.
This recognition took place during the university's 9th convocation ceremony held over the weekend.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Armayau Hamisu stated that the Doctor of Engineering degree was awarded to Bichi in acknowledgment of his significant contributions to the advancement of education in Nigeria.
Hamisu highlighted Bichi's recent initiative to provide full sponsorship for 21 postgraduate students pursuing various engineering disciplines in Malaysia.
Additionally, the lawmaker is supporting another 5,000 residents from the Bichi constituency who are enrolled in various universities and colleges across Nigeria.
In addition to the honorary degree, the Federal University, Dutsinma, has named a 200-capacity auditorium in his honor to recognize his commitment to humanitarian efforts.
“Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi has brought several projects to this university and the projects have improved academic activities in the institution.
“Bichi has done so much, through his oversight functions, by giving funds to the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, for the building of three faculties, including a library, one female hostel and an auditorium.l,” the VC said.
After the inauguration of the auditorium named in his honor, Bichi expressed his gratitude to the institution for bestowing this recognition upon him.
“Universities in developed countries have utilised these means of funding to significant effect. Nigerian universities should begin to adopt these measures as well.
“I want to assure you that I will continue to do those things that made the Federal University Dutsinma to recognise me for this honour and do them better even as I ask you to continue to support me in this regard.”
Bichi was joined at the event by members of the House of Representatives from various geopolitical regions, along with his family and friends.
