Following his apprehension in Owerri, Imo State, for alleged cyberbullying of Grammy Award-winning artist Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu (Burna Boy), Darlington Okoye, known professionally as Speed Darlington, is scheduled for arraignment in the Abuja Federal High Court. Speed Darlington has been in Abuja police custody since November.

His arrest in Owerri was linked to allegations of cyberbullying directed at Burna Boy.

Deji Adeyanju, the attorney representing the detained artist, announced via social media on Monday that the court has instructed that Darlington be arraigned within 48 hours following the approval of their fundamental rights application.

Adeyanju stated, “The court has granted our application for Speed Darlington. He must be arraigned within 48 hours or released. While issues of injustice may require time to resolve, justice will ultimately prevail.”

In November, SaharaReporters reported that the Nigeria Police Force had transferred Darlington, also referred to as "Akpi," from Owerri to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Reliable sources informed SaharaReporters that Dasuki Galadanchi, the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) overseeing the Force Intelligence Department, had taken personal charge of Darlington’s case files from the arresting police unit.

On November 27, Mr. Adeyanju confirmed Burna Boy's involvement in the harassment leading to Darlington's arrest by Owerri police on November 26.

Adeyanju further criticized Burna Boy for this alleged act of oppression against Darlington, especially considering Darlington's musical work against oppression.
