Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of NDDC, underscored the Commission's dedication to empowering young individuals through economic initiatives, including training and support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He stressed the necessity of validating and assisting legitimate businesses, pointing out that while government employment opportunities are scarce, it is crucial to cultivate an environment conducive to entrepreneurship for sustainable economic development.
Additionally, Dr. Ogbuku introduced the NDDC Youth Internship Scheme, which aims to equip young people with practical skills by linking them with organizations for hands-on training. The application process is being optimized to ensure the program is ready for implementation by January 2025, with notifications to successful candidates expected shortly.
This initiative is part of the NDDC’s comprehensive strategy to promote economic growth and stability in the Niger Delta by involving youth in productive activities. Since its inception in 2000, the NDDC has prioritized development and empowerment, executing various programs to improve human capacity and infrastructure throughout the region. This latest initiative builds on that foundation, with the goal of transforming the Niger Delta into a hub of economic opportunity.
