Satellite internet provider Starlink has notified its customers in Nigeria of an upcoming increase in monthly subscription fees, effective January 27, 2025. New subscribers will be subject to the revised rates immediately, while existing customers will notice the adjustments in their next billing cycle.

In a communication to users, Starlink stated, “To further enhance the Starlink network and ensure reliable, high-quality service throughout Nigeria, we are revising our monthly subscription fees. These adjustments reflect our ongoing dedication to investing in the infrastructure necessary to improve your experience with Starlink.”

The revised pricing will see the lowest subscription tier rise significantly from ₦38,000 to ₦75,000 per month. Additionally, the cost for the mobile global roaming service will now be ₦717,000 monthly. This marks the second attempt by Starlink to increase prices in Nigeria, following the Nigerian Communications Commission's (NCC) rejection of a previous hike in October due to the lack of required regulatory approval.

Nigerian telecom operators have long advocated for tariff increases but have encountered difficulties in securing approval from the NCC.

Nevertheless, the NCC is expected to authorize a price increase in the first quarter of 2025, as reported by TechCabal. Starlink’s communication to its customers indicates that the company is aligning its plans with the anticipated regulatory changes.

As the Nigerian internet landscape continues to evolve, this development may indicate a significant shift in pricing strategies for satellite and telecom services, affecting both consumers and the competitive environment.
