The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has received authorization from the Benue State House of Assembly to initiate the recruitment of more than 9,000 teachers.

It is important to note that this recruitment process was put on hold in December due to a disagreement between the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Mrs. Grace Adagba, and the Ad-Hoc Committee of the State Assembly, chaired by Hon. Cephas Dyako.

The committee was assigned to investigate the recruitment process to determine if any laws were violated and whether the Board adhered to proper procedures. Following a thorough investigation, the committee cleared Dr. Adagba's Board of any wrongdoing and lifted the suspension on the teacher recruitment.

The House Ad-Hoc Committee's report indicated that current laws permit the Board to "recruit, appoint, promote, and discipline teaching and non-teaching staff on grade levels 07 and above." The report also highlighted that 74,574 candidates applied for the positions, with 48,895 candidates participating in the recent Computer-Based Test (CBT).

In light of this development, the Board has begun the final stages of the recruitment process, which includes screening applicants who achieved the required cut-off marks. In a statement from its Information Officer, Emmanuel Akese, the Board expressed appreciation for the patience shown by all shortlisted applicants.

The statement further assured applicants of a seamless and transparent process aimed at ensuring effective and quality basic education delivery.

The screening exercise is scheduled to take place over a week, starting from January 10, 2024, and concluding on January 16, 2024, with specific dates assigned for applicants from the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) at the Board’s headquarters.
