Following his remarkable achievement of scoring a historic goal, 16-year-old Michael Noonan returns to school.
Sixteen-year-old Michael Noonan had little time to relish his remarkable achievement with Shamrock Rovers.
The young Irish player had school commitments the following morning.
Noonan's goal in the second half on Thursday night secured a 1-0 win for the Hoops against Norwegian side Molde in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League playoff.
At just 16 years and 197 days old, he set the record as the youngest scorer in the competition's history. However, after returning to Dublin, he quickly prepared for his classes on Friday morning.
His mother, Sandie Noonan, shared on X: “And back to school he goes...” alongside a photo of her son heading to class.
Rovers announced that Noonan is now the youngest scorer in any European club competition, although Nii Lamptey had previously scored for Anderlecht in a UEFA Cup match at 16 years and 100 days in 1991.
The second leg of the playoff is scheduled for next Thursday at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin.
Noonan, who previously trialed with Manchester City, joined Rovers in January from St Patrick’s Athletic, where he made history as the youngest starter at 15 years and 9 months.
He also represents Ireland at the Under-17 international level.
Rovers coach Stephen Bradley remarked that Noonan “just lives, breathes, and sleeps football.”
However, he may have had a bit less sleep on Friday morning.
