Controversial artist and Zaazoo performer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been brought before a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta on charges of assaulting government officials.

On Wednesday, Portable voluntarily reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) of the Lagos Command after being declared wanted by the Ogun Command. He was subsequently transferred to the Ogun Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The singer faced a five-count charge at the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, which includes conspiracy, assault, and armed conduct with cutlasses and firearms, as well as actions likely to cause harm.

He entered a plea of not guilty. Additionally, nine of his associates were charged with similar offenses before Magistrate O L Oke.

The individuals charged alongside Portable are Nurudeen Warris, 21, Adetola Alashe, 25, Samuel Adeleke, 28, Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19, Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20, Gospel Kanu, 20, Precious Ohiegebo, 19, Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27, and Fatimo Muhammed, 26.

They face five counts related to felony, assault, and armed conduct, with allegations of intending to kill and causing a breach of peace.

The defendants are accused of assaulting, restricting, and obstructing three town planners: Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, while they were performing their official duties at Odogwu Bar, owned by Portable.

After entering a not guilty plea, Portable's attorney, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, requested bail for his client, asserting that Portable has shown remorse and learned from the incident.

Magistrate O L Oke granted bail set at ₦2 million, requiring one surety of equal value. The case has been adjourned until March 5 for trial.

Ogun State police had previously issued a wanted notice for the singer in connection with the alleged assault on the three government officials during their official duties at his bar in the Sango area.
