The new track is titled “Use My Heart Against Me” and signifies her comeback after her separation from husband Eric Johnson.
Among the lyrics are: ‘Go on / Use my heart against me / Double down like I’m your whisky.
Drink me in until your tipsy / One and done / On the run / Restless soul / Rattle the reverb / Holy Ghost of a believer / I’m the key and you’re the keeper / Here I come / Here I come / Don’t misuse / Don’t confuse / My love.’
Jessica last released original music in September 2008.
Her three-minute comeback song draws inspiration from rock 'n' roll legends such as Betty James, Bo Diddley, and Chuck Berry, among others.
Simpson, who has 15.1 million followers on social media, expressed that "music allows you to shed your former self to embrace a new one," adding that her "soul has been drawn to the place where it truly belongs."
"To the girl I was, I love you. To the woman I am, I am proud of you. To the woman I am becoming, I am excited for you… let’s do this… it’s go time!’ the Jessica Simpson Collection CEO captioned her single announcement.
