The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is partnering with various organizations to empower young entrepreneurs and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within the creative sector to facilitate digital transformation.

The agency has formalized this collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Flutterwave, a leading payments technology firm in Africa, and Alami, a private limited liability company focused on equipping young entrepreneurs in the technology and creative fields with essential digital skills.

Hadiza Umar, the Director of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at NITDA, made this announcement in a statement on Friday, following a meeting between the executives of the involved organizations in Abuja.

Ms. Umar noted that the agreement aims to enhance cooperation in areas such as FinTech innovation, digital literacy, infrastructure development, and the promotion of open-source technology, all of which are intended to stimulate economic growth.

She emphasized that the MoU is anticipated to contribute positively to the economy and aligns with NITDA’s dedication to executing the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), which focuses on equipping SMEs with the necessary skills for the digital age.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa stated that effective public-private partnerships are crucial for Nigeria to realize its digital economy objectives. He emphasized that Flutterwave's innovative fintech solutions are perfectly aligned with the agency's vision for a robust digital economy.

Inuwa further noted that slow digital adoption by SMEs has significantly hindered economic growth, and this collaboration aims to equip businesses with the necessary resources and infrastructure for a successful digital transformation. This partnership represents a significant step toward achieving shared digital transformation goals, underscoring a commitment to advancing Nigeria's progress in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

He stated that NITDA's goal is to equip Nigerian businesses with the necessary tools to adopt digital solutions, thereby fostering economic growth, generating job opportunities, and ensuring equitable access to the advantages of a digital economy.

The Director-General of NITDA emphasized the agency's dedication to establishing a resilient and sustainable digital future for all Nigerians.

Mr. Olugbenga Agboola, Founder and Chief Executive of Flutterwave, expressed optimism about the partnership's potential to empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), noting that many small businesses face challenges in fully adopting digital solutions.

Agboola mentioned that by offering seamless and secure payment technologies, small businesses could enhance their confidence and contribute to a more inclusive digital economy.

He indicated that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would prioritize strengthening public-private partnerships through the development of digital payment infrastructure and technology financing, as well as promoting initiatives related to the 2025 Digital Nigeria Week, among other programs.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the MoU will concentrate on NITDA's primary initiatives.

These initiatives encompass the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP) 2.0, as well as programs focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, skills development, and cybersecurity.

The involved parties are expected to collaborate in bridging the digital divide by enhancing literacy, encouraging fintech innovation, and creating a supportive environment for businesses to utilize secure and efficient financial solutions.
