In a statement released on Saturday by spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, the NNPCL addressed a viral video that suggested its petrol has a short lifespan in fuel tanks.
Reports indicate that a video emerged online featuring a content creator who claimed to have purchased a litre of Dangote petrol from an MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, for N925, while the same litre was sold at NNPC in Ojodu Berger for N945.
The individual stated that he filled two separate power generators with the fuels, noting that the generator using NNPC fuel ceased operation after 17 minutes, whereas the one using Dangote petrol continued for 33 minutes.
However, the NNPCL clarified that the petrol sold at its filling station is sourced from the Dangote refinery.
“The NNPC Ltd strongly refutes the false and misleading allegations made in a viral video circulating online, which claims that NNPC fuel does not last.
“This assertion is baseless and entirely unfounded, originating from unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight,” the statement said.
The company emphasised that its fuel “is carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers.”
The NNPC emphasized that a considerable portion of the Premium Motor Spirit available at its retail stations in Lagos is obtained from the Dangote refinery.
“It is important to emphasise that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this deceptive video was created—is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security.
“Dangote Refinery adheres to strict industry standards, guaranteeing the quality of petroleum products supplied to our consumers,” the NNPC stated.
The organization further noted that the "deceptive video" is yet another attempt by economic saboteurs to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the NNPC.
“We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians.
“Henceforth, NNPC Ltd will take firm legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about our brand and operations. Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law,” it was stressed.
The energy company called on the public to dismiss such "fabricated content" and to seek information from verified sources, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the availability, affordability, and quality of fuel for all Nigerians while upholding global industry standards.
