This year’s event, themed "Sustainable Energy," will commence with the Mini Tour of Lagos, a promotional cycling activity, on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Bamidele Adeleye, Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications and Convener of the event, shared his enthusiasm about the initiative’s progress and influence over the years.
"Cycling Lagos has evolved into a movement that champions fitness, unity, and a greener environment. This year, we aim to elevate the experience, drawing more participants nationwide and ensuring a memorable event for all," he remarked.
Adeleye revealed that the competition will feature a variety of race categories, including the Celebrity Race, Professional Race, Challenge Race, Amateur Race, Corporate Contest, and Children’s Race.
He highlighted that the flagship Celebrity Race is anticipated to see a surge in participation this year. Additionally, the Children’s Race will run concurrently with the main event on May 31 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The theme, "Sustainable Energy," reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering a cleaner environment and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7, which promotes access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
Adeleye elaborated, "Sustainable energy refers to energy sources that meet today’s needs without jeopardizing the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It encompasses energy production and consumption that are environmentally sound, socially equitable, and economically viable."
Adeleye emphasized that the event aims to position cycling as a key sport in Nigeria, encouraging more individuals to adopt cycling for its health and environmental advantages.
He also called on corporate organizations to join the Corporate Race, noting that the event not only promotes healthy competition but also advocates for eco-friendly practices within the business community.
The 2024 edition of Cycling Lagos received endorsement from the Lagos State Sports Commission and was sponsored by Samsung and Stanbic IBTC Bank, with additional support from Nutrify, Cway Group, Nestlé Nigeria, McVities, Leadway Assurance, NNPC, and the Lagos State Cycling Association.
