In his new role, Afuwape emphasized the importance of teamwork and cohesion as critical factors for improving the airport’s performance. Shortly after assuming office, he met with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to discuss the ongoing upgrade of the airport, which is being funded by the state government.
Afuwape has also engaged with FAAN management staff, airport stakeholders, and community leaders, stressing the need for collaboration to enhance the airport’s operations. He urged staff to cooperate in achieving the objectives set for the airport’s growth and development.
The new manager conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing projects at the airport and plans to meet with key security stakeholders, including the Divisional Police Officer and other agencies, to improve security measures.
Afuwape brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked at major airports such as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. He previously served as the Technical Adviser to the Regional Manager for the South-West region from 2023 to 2024 and held leadership positions at various terminals at Murtala Muhammed Airport.
Additionally, Afuwape has a background in journalism, having worked as a reporter and researcher at Vanguard Media Limited between 1995 and 2003.
