Hamburger SV has announced that it has sold a record-breaking 57,000 tickets for its women’s team’s German Cup semifinal clash against northern rivals Werder Bremen. The match, set to take place on March 23 at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion, is now completely sold out, marking a new milestone in German women’s soccer attendance.

“This is more than just a sold-out soccer match,” said Hamburg board member Eric Huwer in a statement on the club’s website on Friday. “It’s a testament to Hamburg’s dedication to supporting girls’ and women’s football, as well as our club.”

The previous highest attendance for a Hamburger SV women’s game was 19,710, achieved during a city derby against St. Pauli last September.

The current national record for a women’s soccer match in Germany was set at 44,808 during the 2023 German Cup final between Wolfsburg and Freiburg in Cologne.

This upcoming semifinal is poised to surpass that figure, further highlighting the growing popularity of women’s football in the country.
