In a show of support, students in Ogun State have expressed their approval of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s initiative to modernize technical colleges across the state. The endorsement came through a joint statement released on Monday in Abeokuta by Gabriel Francis, Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and Kehinde Thomas, President of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS).

The students described the governor’s plan as a forward-thinking move aimed at revitalizing technical education in the state. This follows an announcement by Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, Ogun State’s Commissioner for Education, that rehabilitation efforts have already commenced at several technical colleges.

According to the students, the initiative is expected to attract more students to technical education while equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in a competitive environment. They emphasized that the upgraded facilities would not only improve practical training but also foster innovation and create a more conducive learning atmosphere.

“The ongoing upgrades will enhance hands-on learning, encourage creativity, and prepare students for both employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in various industries,” the statement read.

The students also pointed out the timeliness of the project, noting the increasing demand for skilled technical professionals in today’s economy. They expressed optimism that the revamped colleges would produce a workforce capable of meeting the needs of both local and international markets.

“This initiative will strengthen the connection between education and industry, ensuring students are equipped with relevant skills for the modern economy,” the statement added.

While commending the governor for his efforts, the students also called on the state government to address security concerns around tertiary institutions in Ogun State.
