ValueJet, in partnership with the Plateau State Government, has announced the reintroduction of direct flights between Lagos and Jos, set to commence on April 2, 2025.
The airline will initially operate flights three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—with plans to expand to daily service in the future.
Formalizing the Partnership
ValueJet’s Managing Director, Omololu Majekodunmi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He confirmed that an MoU was signed with the Plateau State Government, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Jatau Gyang, to solidify the partnership.
“In a bid to expand flight operations, ValueJet and the Plateau Government have agreed to restart direct flights from Lagos to Jos, Plateau, beginning April 2,” the NAN report stated.
Enhancing Travel Convenience and Safety
The reintroduction of the Lagos-Jos route is part of ValueJet’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity across Nigeria. Majekodunmi noted that the service aims to offer a safer and faster alternative to the five-hour road journey between Jos and Abuja, which has been plagued by security concerns and extended travel times.
Instead of navigating risky road travel, passengers can now opt for a 35-minute flight. The Plateau State Governor’s personal experience—having undertaken over 25 road trips between Jos and Abuja, often facing insecurity—reinforced the necessity of this service.
Boosting Economic Growth in Plateau State
This initiative aligns with Plateau State’s economic development strategy, aimed at attracting investment and improving mobility for residents and visitors.
Commissioner Jatau Gyang emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating:
“This partnership is a crucial step toward fostering development in the state while ensuring safer travel options for our people.”
ValueJet’s Growth and Expansion Plans
Established in 2018, ValueJet commenced operations with its inaugural flight on October 10, 2022. The airline introduced Jos-bound flights in February 2023 as part of its expansion but later suspended the route. The upcoming April 2, 2025, relaunch marks the airline’s renewed commitment to serving Plateau State.
Currently, ValueJet operates flights across major Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Yola, Benin, Asaba, and Kano. The airline also offers charter services for customized travel needs.
With this latest development, ValueJet continues to strengthen Nigeria’s air travel network while providing safe, efficient, and reliable transportation options.
