The award was presented at the EduNorth Summit, a significant educational forum held in Kaduna over the weekend. The summit, themed "Attaining International Educational Standards in Northern Nigeria," was jointly organized by the Kaduna State Ministry of Education and Speedy Educational Consults.
Upon receiving the award, Dr. Dahiru passionately championed the adoption of locally developed digital solutions tailored to the unique context of the region. She emphasized the transformative potential of integrating indigenous languages seamlessly into global technologies, asserting that this approach would be instrumental in bridging existing educational disparities and simultaneously enhancing global competitiveness for the region's students.
"The region possesses a significant opportunity to harness the power of modern technologies for local benefit by strategically focusing on our rich indigenous languages and their practical applications within various digital platforms," Dr. Dahiru stated. She further elaborated that, "With the implementation of well-defined policies and dedicated financial support, locally conceived and developed solutions can be effectively embedded within digital learning systems. This integration will not only make education more accessible to a wider population but also ensure its relevance to the cultural and linguistic context of the learners."
Dr. Dahiru, a respected lecturer and a vocal advocate for progressive education policies, underscored the critical role of data-driven policymaking in informing effective reforms within the education sector. In his address at the summit, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Prof Muhammad Sani Bello, lauded the EduNorth Summit as a timely and pertinent intervention that directly aligns with the ongoing comprehensive education reforms being undertaken by the state government. Represented by Mallam Shehu Abbas, the Deputy Director of Planning in the ministry, Prof Bello reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Kaduna State Government to actively collaborate with credible and reliable partners in order to significantly expand access to high-quality education for all its citizens.
Adding a historical perspective to the discourse, Prof Yahaya Saleh Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Scholarships and Loans Board, reflected on the significant historical relevance of the Ajami education model within Northern Nigeria. He expressed concern over the observed decline in the sector's efficacy, attributing it to challenges such as pervasive insecurity, inadequate infrastructure, and persistent socio-economic barriers.
To address these challenges and revitalize the educational landscape, Prof Ibrahim proposed the establishment of a dedicated Northern innovation hub. He envisioned this hub as a catalyst for educational advancement through strategic international collaborations and the infusion of innovative approaches.
