...A Testament to Excellence in Manufacturing and Workplace Safety

The Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria (MAN) has commended British American Tobacco (BAT) for its pivotal role in fostering stronger collaboration between the government and the manufacturing sector. This recognition was conveyed during a high-profile visit to BAT’s Ibadan factory, led by MAN’s President, Francis Meshioye, alongside the association’s Director General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir.

Recognizing BAT’s Commitment to High Standards

During the visit, Meshioye lauded BAT for its unwavering commitment to operational excellence, safety, and quality.

“From the moment we arrived, BAT’s dedication to safety, quality, and innovation was evident. The company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) induction process reflects its strong commitment to workplace safety and employee welfare. I encourage BAT to intensify its transition to reduced-risk products. MAN remains committed to supporting BAT’s initiatives and recognises its leadership in the sector,” Meshioye stated.

BAT’s Resilience in a Complex Regulatory Environment

MAN’s Director General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, echoed these sentiments, praising BAT for its resilience and steadfast commitment to Nigeria’s manufacturing landscape, particularly amid a challenging regulatory environment.

“BAT stands out as a responsible and committed member of MAN, effectively addressing industry challenges. The government needs to support businesses that adhere to regulations, and BAT exemplifies this commitment. We deeply appreciate BAT’s substantial contributions to the manufacturing sector and encourage the company to continue its efforts,” Ajayi-Kadir noted.

A Culture of Safety and Excellence

The MAN delegation also had the opportunity to observe BAT’s rigorous EHS induction protocols, reinforcing the company’s strong emphasis on workplace safety. The visit coincided with BAT’s celebration of an impressive milestone: four years of zero lost-time incidents at the Ibadan factory. This remarkable achievement underscores BAT’s robust safety culture and operational excellence, setting a benchmark within the industry.

Sustainability and Innovation at the Core

BAT’s Operations Director, Hasnain Ishtiaq, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to sustainability and employee welfare.

“At BAT, we are dedicated to building A Better Tomorrow by prioritising employee safety, minimising our environmental impact, and embracing sustainable practices. Our mission is to continue innovating and leading the industry while upholding responsible manufacturing standards,” Ishtiaq stated.

Strengthening the Future of Nigerian Manufacturing

This visit further cements BAT’s position as a key player in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, with its commitment to innovation, regulatory compliance, and sustainability serving as a model for other industry players. MAN’s recognition of BAT’s contributions highlights the need for continuous government and private sector collaboration to foster economic growth and industrial development in Nigeria.

With a strong commitment to excellence and sustainability, BAT continues to pave the way for responsible and forward-thinking manufacturing, setting new industry standards and contributing to a more resilient and inclusive economy.
