A public disagreement unfolded on Thursday between two prominent figures in Nigerian comedy, Oluwaseyitan Aletile, popularly known as Seyi Law, and Adebowale Adedayo, famous as Mr Macaroni. The contention centres around the origins and impact of a collaborative skit they worked on in early 2020, with each comedian presenting starkly different narratives regarding its inception and influence on Mr Macaroni's burgeoning career at the time.

The exchange began when Seyi Law, referencing a video shared on his X.com (formerly Twitter) page, detailed his version of events. He asserted that Mr Macaroni, facilitated by Seyi Law's cousin known as #toluthejesusbaby, had sought his assistance at Seyi Law's mother's birthday celebration in January 2020. According to Seyi Law's account, he not only agreed to support the then-upcoming comedian but also conceived and wrote the script for the collaborative skit himself, subsequently acting alongside Mr Macaroni. He strongly implied this specific collaboration was a pivotal moment that significantly boosted Mr Macaroni's visibility, stating, "...and like they say, the rest is history."

Seyi Law further elaborated on his perceived contributions to the wider skit-making community, suggesting many creators benefited from his "benevolence" by using his signature "Yeeee! Yeeeee!!" voiceover in their skits without compensating him for royalties, ending with a somewhat pointed "Kundus' [kudos] to them for their massive success."

However, Mr Macaroni swiftly refuted Seyi Law's narrative, presenting a counter-account supported by what he indicated were screenshots of their past conversations. He expressed disappointment, stating, "Ehya Uncle Seyi, you shouldn’t be doing this to yourself... it breaks my heart that I also have to respond to you this way to correct some of these unnecessary lies."

Mr Macaroni contested the claim that he initiated contact through Seyi Law's cousin. Instead, he asserted that it was Seyi Law who first reached out to him via direct message in December 2019, proposing a collaborative idea he believed would be highly successful. He also clarified that while he did attend Seyi Law's mother's birthday party in January 2020, it was upon Seyi Law's direct invitation, not as a supplicant seeking career support.

Crucially, Mr Macaroni challenged the notion that the collaboration was the primary catalyst for his fame. He reminded Seyi Law that by late 2019/early 2020, he was already gaining significant traction online as a "viral sensation" with his popular "Daddy Wa" persona, boasting nearly 100,000 followers at the time Seyi Law allegedly initiated contact. While acknowledging the collaboration was a "big deal" for him and expressing respect for Seyi Law, Mr Macaroni maintained that his rise was already well underway due to his own content creation efforts. He added that he had reciprocated the collaborative spirit by helping promote Seyi Law's shows when called upon.

This public exchange highlights the often-complex dynamics of collaboration and mentorship within the entertainment industry, particularly concerning claims of who provided the crucial "big break." Both comedians command large followings, and their differing recollections have sparked considerable discussion among fans online, leaving observers with two distinct versions of their shared history.
