Wizkid, Rema, Asake, Tems Dominate AMA Favourite Afrobeats Nominations

Nigerian music powerhouses to compete with South Africa's Tyla for coveted award.

Nigerian global music icons Wizkid, Rema, Asake, and Tems have all secured nominations in the Favourite Afrobeats Category at the highly anticipated 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs).

Following an impactful 2024 that saw Rema release his sophomore album 'HEIS' and Tems drop her debut album 'Born In The Wild' – both of which earned them Grammy nominations – the two artists will now contend for an AMA trophy.

Asake also had a successful 2024 with the release of his third album, 'Lungu Boy', while Wizkid unveiled his sixth LP, 'Morayo'.

The widespread success of their collaborative track, 'MMS', which garnered them Grammy nominations for Best African Song Performance, has further propelled their recognition on the global stage, contributing to their AMA nominations.

The formidable Nigerian quartet will be competing against South African sensation Tyla for the Favourite Afrobeats prize.

The 2025 AMAs mark the return of the prestigious award show for its 51st installment, following a hiatus in 2023 and 2024.

Fan voting is now officially open across all award categories via VoteAMAs.com and the @AMAs Instagram profile. Music enthusiasts worldwide can cast their votes until Thursday, May 15, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Notably, voting for the Collaboration of the Year and Social Song of the Year categories will remain open through the first 30 minutes of the AMAs broadcast.

The 2025 American Music Awards are scheduled to take place on May 25th and will be hosted by the renowned Jennifer Lopez. The event will be broadcast live on CBS, bringing the celebration of global music talent to audiences worldwide.
