In a strategic move to establish itself as a prominent regional center for medical and wellness tourism, the Egyptian government has approved the formation of a National Council for Health Tourism. This decision was announced by the Cabinet following its weekly meeting on Tuesday, signaling a strong commitment to developing this promising sector.

The newly formed council, to be chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development, will assume a central role in overseeing the regulation, ensuring quality control, and actively promoting Egypt's diverse health tourism services. This initiative is driven by the country's objective to attract increased foreign currency inflows and provide significant support to the broader Egyptian economy.

Empowered to formulate national strategies and issue binding decisions, the council will also be responsible for developing service benchmarks that align with international standards. Furthermore, it will establish a comprehensive unified digital platform designed to centralize crucial data, streamline services, and provide comprehensive statistics related to health tourism within Egypt.

This step is in direct alignment with Egypt's broader strategy to diversify its tourism offerings beyond its renowned cultural and leisure attractions. In an official statement, the Cabinet indicated that the council is mandated to convene at least once every quarter and will provide regular progress updates to the Prime Minister, who will also chair council sessions when his schedule permits.

Key priorities for the National Council for Health Tourism include fostering robust collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders, enhancing accessibility to a wide range of services, and significantly improving the overall patient experience. This will involve the creation of a dedicated mechanism for efficiently addressing and resolving patient complaints. Additionally, the government plans to launch targeted marketing campaigns aimed at highlighting Egypt's competitive advantages in the realms of medical care and wellness services on an international stage.
