Nollywood actress Ruby Ojiakor has responded to critics questioning her decision to hold her wedding at her husband's church, St. Philips Anglican Church, emphasizing that her choice was rooted in love, respect, and marital unity.
Over the weekend, the film star tied the knot with her longtime partner, filmmaker Moc Madu, in a well-attended, star-studded ceremony. However, shortly after the celebration, some observers took to social media to question why the wedding took place in the groom’s church rather than the bride’s.
“He’s the Head of the Family”
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ruby addressed the backlash directly. She stated that choosing her husband’s church for the wedding was not only intentional but a reflection of her respect for his leadership in the home.
"Yes, I wedded at St. Philips Anglican Church, my husband's church," she wrote. "And for those of you saying it’s wrong, that it’s supposed to be in the woman’s church—please, when it gets to your turn, you can do as it pleases you, ok?"
Ruby made it clear that for her, honoring her husband’s faith community was a natural choice. “As for me, I wedded in my husband’s church because he married me in full, and he’s the head of the family. My king, I love, adore, and respect so much.”
A Love Story "Written in Heaven"
Amidst the criticism, Ruby maintained a tone of gratitude and joy. She asked followers to stop what she described as unnecessary dragging, reminding them that every love story is personal.
“God bless you all and stop dragging me unnecessarily. Love story written in heaven. Two hearts… one soul,” she added, signing off with the wedding hashtag #ASAONWA2025 and the statement: “Jesus, we love you.”
A Moment of Celebration
While the debate around wedding traditions continues to stir strong opinions, Ruby’s message underscores a recurring theme in many modern unions—navigating tradition and personal conviction.
The ceremony itself was widely celebrated in entertainment circles, with notable Nollywood figures in attendance. The couple’s decision may have sparked conversation, but for Ruby, it remains a personal and spiritual choice—a declaration of unity and mutual respect in her new chapter of life.
