Leadership Transition at Seven-Up Bottling Company as Ziad Maalouf Retires, Sari El-Khalil Named New MD

A New Chapter for One of Nigeria’s Leading Beverage Companies

Seven-Up Bottling Company Ltd. (SBC), one of Nigeria’s foremost beverage manufacturers, is entering a new phase of leadership following the retirement of its long-serving Managing Director, Ziad Maalouf. After nearly 18 years of transformative service, Maalouf will be succeeded by Sari El-Khalil, the company’s Chief Transformation Officer and a current member of the SBC Board.

According to a press statement released by the company, the leadership transition will take effect on July 1, 2025.

Ziad Maalouf: A Legacy of Growth and Transformation

Ziad Maalouf’s tenure marked an era of dynamic evolution for SBC. Under his leadership, the company redefined its go-to-market approach, expanded manufacturing capabilities, and launched several new product lines including Aquafina, Lipton Ice Tea, and Supa Komando. Maalouf also championed sustainability initiatives, making SBC a recognized advocate of environmental responsibility within Nigeria’s manufacturing space.

Reflecting on his departure, Maalouf stated:

“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to lead SBC through such a transformative period. I’m proud of what we’ve built, especially the culture of innovation, discipline, and shared purpose. I leave knowing the company is in capable hands and look forward to continuing my work and mission of supporting Nigerian businesses through SME Scale Up.”

Sari El-Khalil: Leading with Vision and Continuity

Incoming Managing Director, Sari El-Khalil, brings a blend of global expertise and deep familiarity with SBC. A lifelong connection to Nigeria, where he spent his early years, grounds his understanding of the market. His career began at SBC, with roles spanning sales, operations, and finance, before earning his MBA at NYU Stern and gaining further experience at PepsiCo USA.

Returning to Nigeria in 2020, Sari led key financial planning initiatives before becoming SBC’s first Chief Transformation Officer—a role in which he oversaw strategic changes that modernized the company’s operations and positioned it for future success.

Commenting on his appointment, Sari remarked:

“Building on the strong foundation laid by the company’s founders, as well as Ziad and the team, I am committed to driving innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth, guided by our people-first ethos. Together, we will continue to shape the future of our industry and make a positive impact across Nigeria.”

Board Endorses Leadership Shift

The SBC Board has expressed full support for the transition, describing it as a balance of continuity and renewed energy.

“Sari’s appointment reflects both continuity and new momentum,” said Mr. Faysal El-Khalil, Chairman of the Board. “His global perspective and hands-on leadership within SBC make him uniquely equipped to guide us into this next phase. At the same time, we extend our deepest gratitude to Ziad Maalouf for nearly two decades of visionary leadership.”

A Commitment That Endures

As SBC moves forward, the leadership transition affirms the company’s commitment to long-term growth, operational excellence, and national development. With enduring values and purpose-driven leadership, SBC remains focused on its mission to serve, inspire, and lead across Nigeria’s beverage industry.
