Controversial Nigerian comedian and reality TV star DeeOne has stirred debate after suggesting that veteran Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji is losing relevance due to her limited presence on social media.

Speaking on a recent episode of Pulse’s Hot Takes podcast, DeeOne argued that modern celebrity branding heavily depends on consistent online visibility. He claimed that stars who remain low-profile or “mysterious” struggle to maintain relevance in today’s fast-paced digital culture.

Genevieve not talking much on social media is not helping her. Genevieve not posting on social media every time is reducing her brand. Let me rephrase it — anybody who is not posting constantly is not top of mind,” DeeOne said.

In a controversial comparison, the comedian cited popular TikTok personality Peller as being “more relevant” in Nigeria’s internet space than Genevieve Nnaji — despite her longstanding influence in the Nigerian film industry.

What makes her different from other actresses? Number one from when? Since which year? Peller right now is more relevant on the internet space in Nigeria than Genevieve Nnaji,” he added.

Genevieve Nnaji, who has historically maintained a private and reserved public image, is widely respected as one of Nollywood’s most iconic figures. Her selective public appearances and minimal social media activity have often been interpreted as part of her personal brand, drawing admiration from fans who value her mystique and legacy.

However, DeeOne’s remarks have reignited conversations around the evolving nature of fame and visibility in the digital age — especially within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where social media influence often translates into endorsement deals, media buzz, and perceived relevance.

As of now, Genevieve has not responded to the comments.
