UK-Based Nigerian Artist Bolaji Amodu Announces Debut Nollywood Film "Ago Alago" Set for June 7 Release

Bolaji Babatunde Amodu, the multifaceted UK-based Nigerian musician and filmmaker, has officially announced the upcoming release of his debut Nollywood movie, "Ago Alago." The film is slated to premiere exclusively on June 7 on his YouTube channel, IRENITEMITV.

Amodu, who is also currently making waves with his trending hit single "Faanu Yanju e," shared the announcement through his outfit, Irenitemi International. The venture into filmmaking marks a significant expansion of his creative endeavors.

"Ago Alago" boasts a compelling cast of Nollywood veterans and talents, including Ayo Olaiya, Aisha Raji, Aunty Ajara, Don Richard, Prince Akande Roland, and Kehinde Asekunlowo.

A Moral Compass for Modern Society

Shedding light on the film's core themes, Amodu explained that "Ago Alago" delves into profound concepts such as contentment, self-identity, and the inherent dangers of envy and imitation. He emphasized that the movie is designed to act as a moral compass in a contemporary world increasingly swayed by social comparison and materialism.

"It teaches the importance of being satisfied with what you have at your level," Amodu stated. "It warns against copying other people’s lifestyles—especially when done dishonestly, just because they appear successful. It’s a story that promotes integrity and encourages people to remain true to their journey.”

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a modern-day Yoruba society, "Ago Alago" is described as drawing deeply from traditional values, religious ethics, and time-honored cultural teachings. Amodu highlighted how the storyline seamlessly blends contemporary settings with moral lessons passed down through generations. "It mirrors our society while urging us to reflect on our values," he explained, indicating a rich narrative that resonates with both present-day realities and enduring wisdom.

A Dedication to Faith and Family

Amodu dedicated his new work to God and his parents, Pastor Samson Amodu and Deaconess Esther Amodu. He credited them for instilling in him the virtues of contentment and devotion to faith, acknowledging their profound influence on his life and values. "I owe much of who I am to my parents. They taught me to live with contentment and honour God in all things,” he shared.

Movie critic Opeyemi Joshua has already weighed in on the anticipation surrounding the film, stating, “With its June 7 release date fast approaching, expectations are high that Ago Alago will resonate deeply with audiences both in Nigeria and across the diaspora, especially those who appreciate stories that blend tradition with contemporary realities.”

As the release date draws near, "Ago Alago" is poised to offer audiences a thought-provoking cinematic experience that combines entertainment with valuable life lessons.
