New restaurant in Ogun State signals brand’s commitment to local investment and sustainability
Global fast-food giant Burger King has officially opened its first outlet in Abeokuta, marking a significant expansion into Ogun State and becoming the brand’s 23rd restaurant in Nigeria.
Located at 18B Lalubu Street, Oke-Ilewo, the new outlet represents a key step in Burger King Nigeria’s nationwide growth strategy, bringing its signature flame-grilled experience to a fresh market.
Government Applauds Investment
The launch event, held over the weekend, drew high-profile guests including the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Her Excellency, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who cut the ribbon and welcomed the investment.
“This administration is focused on attracting investments that create jobs and improve the quality of life for our people. Burger King’s arrival is a clear indication that Ogun is open for business,” she said.
Officials highlighted the alignment between Burger King’s entry and the state government’s broader agenda to boost tourism, encourage local enterprise, and drive economic development.
Responding to Customer Demand
Mr. Rushdi Ibrahim, Managing Director and CEO of Burger King Nigeria, explained that opening in Abeokuta was driven by strong customer demand and clear market potential.
“We’ve had many loyal customers from Abeokuta who visited our outlets in Lagos and other cities, consistently asking us to bring Burger King to their city,” he said. “After conducting market research, it was clear Abeokuta was ready for a world-class burger experience.”
Nigeria’s First Green Burger King Restaurant
The Abeokuta branch is also notable as Burger King Nigeria’s first green restaurant, designed with a focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Features include the use of recycled shipping containers, gas-powered generators, energy-efficient AC systems, and zero diesel usage, reflecting the brand’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.
Localised Menu with a Nigerian Twist
Burger King Abeokuta offers a tailored menu designed to blend international quality with local tastes.
Alongside its signature flame-grilled burgers, the outlet serves items such as potato cubes, sweet potato fries, plantain cubes, and suya, offering a fusion of familiar Nigerian flavours with the brand’s renowned quality.
“Our goal is simple: to serve great-tasting food, the way you like it, with innovation, quality, and a local touch. Abeokuta, your burger experience just got a major upgrade,” Ibrahim said.

The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Oba Abdul Rasaq, the traditional ruler of Papalanto; Chief Mutiu Adebowale, Gbadegesin of Egbaland; and the Commissioner for Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Olatunji Odunlami.
