The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced the minimum admissible scores for tertiary institution admissions for the upcoming academic session. This decision was made on Tuesday during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

New Cut-Off Marks Revealed

For university admissions, the cut-off mark has been set at 150. This marks a crucial benchmark for prospective university students across the country.

JAMB also detailed the cut-off marks for other higher education institutions:

  • Colleges of Nursing Sciences: 140
  • Polytechnics: 100
  • Colleges of Education: 100
  • Colleges of Agriculture: 100

JAMB confirmed these figures on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, “The minimum admissible scores for admissions for the next academic session have been fixed at 150 for universities, 100 for polytechnics, 100 for colleges of education, and 140 for colleges of nursing sciences by the stakeholders (Heads of Tertiary Institutions).”

This announcement follows recent discussions around technical glitches experienced during the 2025 UTME, which led to rescheduled examinations for affected students nationwide.

New Age Requirement for Tertiary Admissions

In a related development, the Federal Government has introduced a new minimum admissible age for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Minister of Education Tunji Alausa announced on Tuesday that the minimum age for admission is now 16 years.

This age requirement will be enforced through JAMB's Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). Efforts will be made to accommodate candidates who are expected to turn 16 by August 31, 2025. This new policy aims to ensure that students entering tertiary institutions have reached a certain level of maturity for academic pursuits.
