In a move that underscores its commitment to developing local talent and strengthening its operations across Africa, e-commerce giant Jumia has named Temidayo Ojo as the new Chief Executive Officer for its Nigerian business.
The announcement, made on Monday, marks a planned leadership transition aimed at consolidating gains made in Jumia’s largest market. Ojo succeeds Sunil Natraj, who is credited with steering Jumia Nigeria through a challenging period of economic and operational reforms that helped restore growth and consumer trust.
According to company officials, Ojo’s appointment is part of a deliberate strategy to empower local leaders who understand their markets and can adapt quickly to the continent’s evolving e-commerce landscape.
Temidayo Ojo brings a track record of success within Jumia, having joined the company in 2020 as Head of Planning and Performance. He later became Chief Commercial Officer in Nigeria before taking on the role of CEO in Ghana, where he led the business to record-breaking growth and cultivated what the company describes as a strong team culture.
Reflecting on his new position, Ojo described the opportunity as both professional and deeply personal.
“I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the leadership of Jumia Nigeria, a market that holds immense potential and strategic importance. As someone who grew up in Nigeria and understands the unique needs of our customers and partners, this role is deeply personal to me,” he said.
He added that he looks forward to collaborating with the Nigerian team to deepen customer trust, drive greater impact, and advance the company’s goals in the country’s highly competitive e-commerce sector.
Jumia’s Group CEO, Francis Dufay, welcomed Ojo’s elevation, praising his leadership in Ghana as an example of what’s possible when strong teams share a clear vision.
“His energy, values, and business acumen make him the right person to lead Jumia Nigeria into its next chapter,” Dufay said.
Dufay also expressed appreciation for the outgoing CEO, Sunil Natraj, acknowledging his role in stabilising and growing the company’s largest market.
“We are grateful for Sunil’s leadership, particularly in leading the turnaround of our largest operation. We wish him the very best,” he noted.
As part of the broader reshuffle, Jumia announced that Seleem Musibau will take over from Ojo as the new CEO of Jumia Ghana, ensuring continuity in leadership across the company’s West African markets.
Jumia says the leadership changes reflect its long-term vision to develop homegrown talent capable of driving innovation and delivering sustainable growth across Africa’s dynamic e-commerce sector.
Temidayo Ojo holds an MBA in Finance, Strategy, and Consulting from IESE Business School in Spain and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Lagos.
The company’s management has signalled that these appointments are designed not only to strengthen its operational effectiveness, but also to reinforce its commitment to building businesses led by local leaders who understand the diverse needs of African consumers.
