The revelation came during her appearance on the interview series Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator Bae U Barbie. Speaking candidly, Nkechi explained that the decision to pause her acting career wasn’t driven by a lack of passion, but by a need for financial stability that Nollywood projects at the time weren’t offering.
According to the actress, she often found herself pouring time and effort into movies that yielded little or no profit, sometimes earning less than ₦1 million in total. But that changed when a mysterious individual began sending her a steady weekly allowance—without ever revealing their identity.
“Someone anonymously put me on a ₦1 million weekly salary because I wasn’t getting paid enough for movie roles,” she said during the interview. “That’s why I took a break from acting. I can’t shoot a movie and might not even make up to ₦1 million profit from it.”
The unexpected gesture, while shocking, gave Nkechi room to reassess her priorities and value. She explained that the consistent income made her realise she didn’t need to continue taking on low-paying projects just to stay visible in the industry.
Her disclosure has sparked conversations online, with fans praising her honesty while also raising questions about transparency, financial sustainability in Nollywood, and the identity of the anonymous benefactor.
For now, Nkechi Blessing seems to be focused on balancing her career choices with financial self-worth—taking her time to return to acting on her own terms.
