Street-hop singer escalates dispute after diss tracks, defamation claims, and police petition
Nigerian street-hop sensation Habeeb Olalomi Badmus, widely known as Portable, has stirred fresh controversy after a video surfaced showing him visiting a traditional shrine, seemingly seeking spiritual justice in his escalating feud with social media activist VeryDarkMan.
The dramatic move follows weeks of heated exchanges between the two public figures, sparked by VeryDarkMan’s diss track in which he labeled Portable a thief—using the Yoruba word “Ole”—and referenced footage allegedly linking the singer to a tricycle theft case.
The clip, which quickly went viral, triggered a barrage of insults, diss tracks, and digital mudslinging between the two, each attempting to discredit the other across social media platforms.
In an apparent bid to escalate the matter legally, Portable filed a police petition, accusing VeryDarkMan of defamation and cyberbullying. The artist alleged that the activist’s statements had caused reputational damage and public ridicule.
But in a twist few anticipated, Portable has now turned to traditional spiritual channels, as seen in a newly shared video where he appears at a native shrine. In the footage, the artist is seen calling upon a native doctor to intervene, accusing his rival and others of using falsehoods to tarnish his image and destroy his career.
“Let the gods judge between us,” Portable is heard saying in Yoruba, as he invokes curses upon those “defaming” him.
While some fans interpret the move as a symbolic cultural expression, others have criticized the singer for further inflaming the feud rather than resolving it through proper legal or civil channels.
Meanwhile, VeryDarkMan has yet to publicly respond to the shrine episode, though observers expect the feud to continue playing out in both digital and cultural arenas.
What began as a social media spat has now evolved into a complex saga involving music, law enforcement, and traditional beliefs, illustrating how deeply personal and public conflicts can become in Nigeria’s high-stakes influencer and entertainment ecosystem.
