Seplat Energy and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) have reaffirmed their support for golf development in Nigeria by partnering with Falcon Golf Development Company (FGDC) to sponsor the prestigious International Pairs golf tournament.
Uyo to Host 2025 Edition
The 2025 edition of the tournament is set to take place from July 11 to 13 at the renowned Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. FGDC Chief Executive Officer, Remi Olukoya, confirmed the dates while announcing a robust lineup of sponsors for this year’s event, including Pepsi, Suzuki by CFAO, RwandAir, and True Blue Energy.
Speaking to journalists, Olukoya highlighted the careful planning behind the choice of Uyo as the host city, describing it as an intentional decision to deliver a fresh and memorable experience for participants and guests alike.
“The 2025 International Pairs will be unlike any previous edition, with a unique blend of competitive golf and vibrant social activities,” he said.
Aiming for a Seamless, Exciting Experience
Olukoya assured the media that all necessary arrangements had been finalised to ensure a smooth and enjoyable tournament. Beyond the golf competition itself, he promised a range of engaging off-course experiences designed to make the event fun-filled and unforgettable.
He also expressed deep appreciation to all corporate sponsors for their ongoing support and collaboration, which he described as critical to the sustained growth of golf in Nigeria and the successful staging of international-standard events.
Winners to Represent Nigeria at Sun City World Finals
Highlighting the global significance of the tournament, Olukoya revealed that the winners of the Nigeria National Finals will earn the right to represent the country at the World Finals. The international showdown is scheduled to be held at South Africa’s iconic Sun City Resort from October 6 to 10, 2025.
Sun City, known for its luxurious setting and adventure offerings, features world-class golf courses such as the legendary Gary Player Country Club and the family-friendly Lost City Golf Course.
Strengthening Nigeria’s Sporting Profile
The strong backing from major industry players like Seplat Energy and NNPCL underscores a growing commitment to diversifying Nigeria’s sporting landscape beyond football and athletics.
By supporting high-profile international events such as the International Pairs, these sponsors are not only promoting golf as a sport but also contributing to tourism and economic activity in host cities like Uyo.
FGDC’s partnership with its sponsors aims to build on this momentum, further elevating Nigeria’s standing as a capable and attractive destination for global sporting events.
