Temilade Openiyi, globally known as Tems, has reached another significant milestone in her already illustrious career. The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer was recently honoured with Spotify’s prestigious Billion Streams plaque after her collaboration with American artists Future and Drake, Wait For U, crossed the 1-billion-streams mark on the platform.

The recognition solidifies Tems’ place among the most-streamed African artists globally. She now stands alongside fellow Nigerian artists Wizkid and Rema, as well as South Africa’s Tyla, who have all earned the rare Spotify Billion badge—an emblem of the growing global impact of Afrobeats and African talent.

Released in 2022, Wait For U marked a pivotal point in Tems’ career. The track not only introduced her to a broader international audience but also broke significant records. It became the first song by an African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, a historic achievement that placed Tems in a league of her own.

In 2023, the same song clinched a Grammy Award in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category, earning Tems her first Grammy win and making her one of the most celebrated African female artists of her generation.
