Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Ghana international Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United in a deal worth £55 million, subject to the granting of a work permit.

The 24-year-old midfielder has agreed to a six-year contract that will keep him at Spurs until 2031. Despite West Ham rejecting an initial £50 million bid last week, Spurs returned with an improved offer to secure the highly rated player, who had an £85 million release clause in his contract.

Kudus has been a standout performer since arriving at West Ham from Ajax for £38 million in August 2023. He quickly adapted to English football, making 65 Premier League appearances and contributing 13 goals and nine assists during his time with the Hammers. In all competitions last season, he scored 14 goals and provided nine assists, underlining his importance to the squad.

Speaking to Tottenham’s official channels after completing the move, Kudus expressed his excitement about joining the North London club.

“I've always wanted to play at the highest level,” he said. “How big the club is, the history and the Champions League as well, so it's a big moment. I'm very happy and can't wait to start.”

Kudus reportedly prioritised a move to Spurs despite interest from at least six other top clubs. He cited new Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank as one of the key factors in his decision.

“From where [Frank] has come from, and seeing the amount of talent he has developed to become great players, it’s a big sign as to why I wanted to work under him as well,” Kudus explained.

Frank, who replaced former Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou last month, has built a reputation for developing young talent, a quality that clearly appealed to Kudus as he considered his next move.

Tottenham’s summer spending may not be over yet. Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is expected to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a potential £60 million transfer to Spurs.

The addition of Kudus adds further creativity and attacking threat to Tottenham’s midfield, strengthening their bid to return to the Champions League and compete for silverware in the coming season.
