In the Kunene Region, four foreign tourists were attacked at Kipwe Camping Site near Khorixas on Friday. According to a police report, unidentified suspects broke into the tourists’ vehicle, making away with passports, wallets, and approximately N$5,000 in cash. The assailants remain at large.
Elsewhere, a fatal altercation unfolded at Promiseland location in Okahandja, where 27-year-old Albertus Uirab succumbed to a stab wound following a dispute on Friday. The suspect fled the scene and has yet to be apprehended.
Tragedy also struck in Mariental, where the body of 34-year-old Donavan Oarum was discovered in a riverbed. Police believe he took his own life and have ruled out foul play at this stage.
In the Otjozondjupa Region, a joint police operation in Okondjatu led to the arrest of a 73-year-old pensioner found in possession of a kudu carcass valued at N$6,000, along with an unlicensed rifle.
Meanwhile, in the north, a 48-year-old suspect was apprehended at Onawa for allegedly breaking into a home while armed with a knife. He reportedly stole goods worth N$12,500 and later sold them at Oshakati’s open markets.
The fight against narcotics continued with drug-related arrests in Kalkrand and Rehoboth on Saturday. Suspects were found in possession of cannabis and mandrax tablets during routine police checks.
A major fraud case also came to light in Ondangwa, where four employees of Tianyauan Trading CC are accused of manipulating customer quotations for personal gain. The alleged scheme, which has been ongoing since January 2024, is believed to have cost the company more than N$394,000.
The weekend was further marred by deadly road accidents across the country. In Henties Bay, a vehicle carrying 18 passengers overturned on Saturday, leaving one person dead and six others injured. A separate head-on collision in Groot Aub claimed two lives and injured five more. In another fatal incident near Rehoboth, three people were killed when a vehicle swerved to avoid a water tank left on the road.
Environmental crime was also on the radar, as a man was arrested in Otjiwarongo for possession of a live pangolin, an endangered species with an estimated value of N$50,000. At Impalila, another suspect was found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Violent disputes continued to escalate over the weekend, with two murders reported. In Rehoboth, a 49-year-old man died following a fight on Saturday, while in Wanaheda, a 26-year-old man was fatally stabbed during an argument on Friday.
All cases remain under active police investigation, as law enforcement agencies grapple with a disturbing rise in criminal activity and violence across the nation.
