The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the umbrella body for professional screen actors in Nollywood, has inaugurated a three-man Asset Recovery Panel to trace and reclaim assets believed to have been lost to mismanagement and wrongful appropriation in the past two decades.
The initiative was formally presented on Wednesday in Abuja by AGN National President, Dr. Emeka Rollas, during an interactive session with the guild’s Board of Trustees (BOT). The session also featured the unveiling of the guild’s new national secretariat.
The panel is chaired by Onwurah Ifeanyi, with Garba Muazu as Secretary and Sydney Diala as a member. Its mandate is to recover the guild’s missing assets—including vehicles, office equipment, landed property, and financial resources—and to ensure such losses are not repeated in the future.
Rollas explained that the recovery effort would involve collaboration with relevant law enforcement and anti-graft agencies such as the Police, EFCC, and ICPC, to restore accountability within the guild.
“Over the past two decades, the Guild has lost several valued assets, including cars, buses, furnished offices, landed property, equipment, and other material resources through mismanagement or wrongful appropriation by past leaders,” Rollas said.
“To safeguard our future and set a clear deterrent against such practices, we have set up the AGN Asset Recovery Panel. This step will not only restore what is rightfully ours but also strengthen accountability and integrity in our institution.”
Rollas Reflects on Tenure
Now serving his final term as president, Rollas used the occasion to reflect on his seven years in office. He highlighted strides made under his leadership, including the retail health management plan that provides affordable healthcare for members, the introduction of the AGN Super App to enhance communication and benefits, as well as efforts to foster unity among actors and reposition the guild for greater respect nationally and internationally.
He also confirmed that, in line with the guild’s constitution, the BOT has already inaugurated a National Electoral Committee to oversee the upcoming leadership transition.
“When I assumed this position, I pledged to give my all to reposition the Guild, and in the past seven years, together we have healed divisions, restored a sense of family, and made the Guild visible and respected,” he said.
BOT Commends Leadership
In his remarks, BOT Secretary, Sonny McDon, praised Rollas and his team for their commitment to improving the guild, describing their tenure as impactful.
“Against all odds, you have proven that to whom much is given, much is expected, and you have not fallen short. We are proud of you and acknowledge your achievements so far,” McDon said.
The unveiling of the new secretariat and the formation of the asset recovery panel mark a milestone in the guild’s drive to consolidate its legacy, tighten accountability, and prepare for leadership renewal.
