Award-winning Ghanaian dancehall star, Shatta Wale, is still being held by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his detention on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The investigation centers on alleged tax obligations linked to his yellow Lamborghini Urus, a luxury car that has long been part of his flamboyant lifestyle.
In a statement released by his management, the Ayoo hitmaker was said to have voluntarily appeared before EOCO officials alongside his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, to cooperate with inquiries.
On Thursday, August 21, his Public Relations Manager, Sammy Flex, was at the EOCO headquarters to begin the process of securing bail. The conditions for his release have reportedly been set at GH₵10 million with two sureties.
Fans Rally in Solidarity
The singer’s detention quickly spilled onto the streets as a group of loyal fans mounted a protest outside EOCO’s offices in Accra, demanding his release. Videos circulating online showed passionate supporters waving placards and chanting in solidarity with the self-styled SM boss.
One fan, who declined to be named, told reporters he had abandoned his workday to stand by the artiste. “I came here early in the morning. I was supposed to go to work, but I am here to support Shatta Wale because I like him,” he said.
According to him, Shatta Wale’s music had been a lifeline in a difficult time. “If it wasn’t for Shatta Wale, I would have been depressed after my mother’s death. He hasn’t given me any money. His songs have helped me.”
The fan also dismissed claims that the protest was sponsored, describing it as a pure act of loyalty. He expressed hope that the matter would soon be resolved in the artiste’s favor.
A Case Under Watch
Shatta Wale, one of Ghana’s most controversial yet influential entertainers, has remained a dominant figure in the music scene with a devoted fan base. His detention has sparked debate both online and offline, with observers closely watching how the case unfolds.
For now, all eyes remain on EOCO and the courts as legal processes continue around the celebrated musician’s tax probe.
