Africa’s biggest music streaming platform, Boomplay, has unveiled its Top 10 Albums for August and September, capturing the voices that defined digital listening trends across the continent this year.
The ranking, drawn from streaming data between January and September 2025, reflects the mix of star power and fresh talent shaping Afrobeats and African pop culture. Nigerian global icon Burna Boy, rising sensation Famous Pluto, and breakout singer Modola all secured positions on the highly competitive list.
Burna Boy’s No Sign for Weakness maintained its dominance, reaffirming the artist’s global reputation for fusing Afro-fusion rhythms with socially conscious storytelling. Ghana’s Black Sherif also impressed with his sophomore project Iron Boy, which landed in third place, underlining his staying power beyond his breakout success.
For emerging acts, Boomplay’s charts offered a major career milestone. Osahon Grandeur Uzama, popularly known as Famous Pluto, scored his first major chart placement with Uzama The 3rd, which critics have described as a bold introduction to Afrobeats’ next wave. Likewise, Temidola Awosika, better known as Modola, entered the Top 10 at ninth place with her debut album New Light. The project followed the viral success of her single Talk on TikTok earlier in the year, signaling her transition from internet buzz to mainstream recognition.
Industry watchers say the diverse lineup on Boomplay’s Top 100 Albums for the first half of 2025 showcases the evolving soundscape of African music. The presence of both global superstars and fast-rising newcomers points to the genre’s growing inclusivity and the influence of streaming platforms in amplifying talent.
Boomplay noted that its charts reflect not only listening patterns in Nigeria but also broader consumption trends across Africa and the diaspora, reinforcing its position as a key player in shaping the continent’s digital music culture.
