First Bank of Nigeria Limited has officially announced its partnership with the E1 Lagos GP, a groundbreaking all-electric powerboat racing championship scheduled to take place from October 3-5, 2025. This collaboration, revealed during a recent Stakeholder Immersion session in Lagos, underscores the bank's long-standing commitment to promoting sports and community development across the country.
Olayinka Ijabiyi, FirstBank's Acting Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication, emphasized that the partnership aligns with the bank's core values of driving legacy and supporting initiatives that unite Nigerians.
"Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about enabling the passions and aspirations that bring our nation together," Ijabiyi stated. "For over 131 years, we've recognized the power of sports to drive our country forward. Through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that inspire and uplift our people."
The bank has a rich history of supporting sports, with longstanding sponsorships of prestigious events like the Georgian Polo Cup, which it has supported for 105 years, and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship for 64 years. This new partnership adds another significant chapter to that legacy.
Connecting Through Sport and Celebration
The timing of the E1 Lagos GP is perfectly aligned with FirstBank's annual DecemberIssaVybe campaign, a vibrant initiative that celebrates the festive spirit of Nigerians. The campaign curates a series of events blending culture, entertainment, and lifestyle to create unforgettable experiences.
"FirstBank is deeply woven into the fabric of society and the lives of our customers," Ijabiyi explained. "As a presenting partner, we are creating meaningful touchpoints, offering a world-class experience of relaxation and celebration that truly captures the essence of Lagos during the festive season."
The event is set to be a major highlight, not just for sports enthusiasts but for Lagos as a whole. Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, praised the partnership, noting that the event will help showcase Lagos's vibrant culture, dynamic people, and global relevance.
The Lagos leg of the championship will feature teams owned by global icons such as Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, and Rafael Nadal. Following the competition in Lagos, the 2025 season will culminate with the final race in Miami.
