Manchester United have completed an agreement to sign highly rated Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF, adding another young prospect to their long-term project. The deal, confirmed by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano on Thursday, will officially take effect in the summer of 2026 when the player turns 18.

According to Romano, the transfer—valued at around $1 million—has already passed all legal checks by United’s lawyers. The move was facilitated by the club’s South American scouting network, with lead scout Gerardo Guzmán Antonaccio playing a central role in sealing the agreement.

Orozco, 17, has quickly built a reputation as one of Colombia’s most promising young players. A defensive midfielder by trade, he captains the Colombian Under-17 national team and was instrumental in guiding his country to the final of the South American U-17 Championship last year. His performances at the tournament drew praise for both leadership and technical qualities, with observers highlighting his composure on the ball, stamina, and ability to dictate play from deep midfield.

At club level, Orozco has already featured for Fortaleza CEIF in Colombia’s domestic league, gaining valuable senior experience despite his age. His progression has caught the attention of several European scouts, but United’s early move ensures they have secured a talent viewed as part of the next generation of South American exports to Europe.

Building for the Future

The teenager’s arrival continues a trend at Old Trafford of targeting highly rated youth prospects to strengthen the club’s development pipeline. Recent academy additions include Ivorian forward Sekou Koné and Danish-Nigerian striker Chido Obi-Martin, both regarded as emerging stars within their age groups.

United’s strategy reflects a wider push under football director John Murtough and the club’s recruitment team to invest in talent with high potential resale value and first-team prospects, while avoiding inflated transfer fees for established stars.

Looking Ahead

Although Orozco will not link up with the Red Devils until 2026, his signing is another indication of United’s commitment to building a global scouting network that identifies future stars early. If his development continues as expected, the Colombian teenager could follow in the footsteps of fellow South American midfielders who have made a mark in European football.
