The federal government disclosed its intention to host the maiden airshow in late 2024, with Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo outlining a vision to position Nigeria as a central hub for future technological and operational advancements in African aviation. The event is expected to serve as a gathering point for commercial airlines, business aviation operators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), regulatory bodies, defence and aerospace institutions, government agencies, and high-value industry stakeholders.
In a statement released on Friday, Arik Air described its involvement as strategic, noting that the airshow offers an opportunity to highlight its evolving brand and reconnect with both domestic and international aviation partners. Company officials say the exhibition will enable the airline to re-engage policy leaders, industry influencers, and commercial collaborators across the global aviation ecosystem.
Chief Executive Officer Roy Ilegbodu expressed confidence in the importance of the inaugural edition, emphasising Arik Air’s readiness to support national initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector. He explained that the airline’s participation aligns with its broader mission of becoming a globally respected air-services brand committed to high standards of safety, service quality, and operational excellence.
According to Ilegbodu, Arik Air sees the airshow as a platform not only to showcase its capabilities but also to contribute to shaping the future of aviation in Nigeria and across the continent. The airline reiterated its commitment to playing an active role in the success of the event while supporting broader government objectives for industry growth.
Arik Air’s renewed momentum follows the federal government’s decision on August 8, 2024, to lift the suspension previously placed on its operations. The airline had been grounded due to a dispute involving Atlas Petroleum, but with the restriction removed, Arik is now reasserting its presence in the aviation sector.
As excitement builds ahead of the 2025 airshow, stakeholders see the event as an important step toward showcasing Nigeria’s aviation potential, fostering partnerships, and boosting regional competitiveness.
